We've just taken a quick look at some of the best free and open source database software out there for the Mac. If you're looking for free or open source database software for your Mac, you'll want to take a closer look at some of these options. As you select your Mac database software tool, remember that software needs vary. Download and execute the latest installer. The installer produces a portable folder. The same installer can be re-run later to download and update your stack with the latest MariaDB, Mongo or PHP version. Any previous projects, settings, databases and PHP extensions will NOT be lost or deleted during upgrades/updates. If you have a Red Hat or SUSE subscription and you install the MariaDB binaries from your Linux distribution vendor, then your current contract may also cover MariaDB. If you run a mission critical database, please make sure you have some kind of support relationship with any of the MariaDB.

Building MariaDB Server from source
In addition to the 'bottled' MariaDB Server package available from Homebrew, you can use Homebrew to build MariaDB from source. This is useful if you want to use a different version of the server or enable some different capabilities that are not included in the bottle package.
Install Mariadb Windows
Two components not included in the bottle package (as of MariaDB Server 10.1.19) are the CONNECT and OQGRAPH engines, because they have non-standard dependencies. To build MariaDB Server with these engines, you must first install boost and judy. As of December 2016, judy is in the Homebrew 'boneyard', but the old formula still works on macOS Sierra. Follow these steps to install the dependencies and build the server:

You can also use Homebrew to build and install a pre-release version of MariaDB Server (for example MariaDB Server 10.2, when the highest GA version is MariaDB Server 10.1). Use this command to build and install a 'development' version of MariaDB Server:
